08-01-10: Willie & Madison

Willie is a Harney County dog that arrived earlier this year.  He is such a loving dog and we are hoping to find him a forever home.  We introduced him to Luc and Madison last Friday and he has been playing with them ever since.  Just this morning the three of them were romping on the deck together, it was great to see Madison start to play.  We saw her chewing on a toy bone just this morning, first time we’ve ever seen her do this.  These two Harney County dogs are starting to come out of their shells (especially Madison).

Willie does extremely well on a leash.  We went for a walk and he stayed right with me and didn’t even pull.  He seems to be crate trained, there have been no accidents in the crate or in the house so far (yay!).  Madison is still learning to be on a leash.  At first, she would do this alligator roll ritual and after a couple of minutes of rolling, she gives in and doesn’t mind the leash being on her – she won’t move though.  It’s a work in progress and taking baby steps.

Willie is very very playful.  He’s hilarious trying to play with Luc, pouncing on him, going under Luc’s big body and running around him in circles.  Luc just looks at him and takes it.  It’s pretty funny.  Madison would just watch as the two play – I think her main motive of keeping her distance is so she can watch to see if the cat will come out.  She is very cat curious.  I don’t think she would hurt the cat, but she gets excited when the cat comes around.  Madison has a soft spot for little dogs.  She LOVES little dogs.  Madison will lick their faces and get extremely excited being around them (I wonder if she thinks they are her pups??).

Nick just reported that Willie and Madison were wrestling and playing together.  I thought I heard some rumbling on the deck :-)   I’m glad to see that Luc is finally coming back to life after Bailey’s passing.  Luc and Bailey were buddies, where Bailey went, Luc followed.  So it’s great to see Luc playing with both Willie and Madison.  Luc didn’t play much with Madison, he kind of ignored her.  But with Willie in the picture, LOL, there’s quite a bit of play-time going on in the yard :-)

Remember, we also have several Harney County dogs that need permanent homes.  Fred, Widget and Jada.  We also have Stu who is a Pit Bull mix that is needing a home; and Bentley the cat, who would like a forever home too.

Til next time….
